An open government enthusiast, Lorna Brown first helped organize an open event in 2001 and has never looked back. Working for the Government of New Brunswick (GNB), she has co-organized four GovMaker conferences (2014-17) and a Canadian Open Data Summit (CODS16) and co-chaired the Canadian Open Data Awards (2016-21). She is inaugural Vice-Chair of the Canadian Open Data Society. At the Office of the CIO she held first pen on early drafts of GNB’s digital transformation strategy, and is currently writing the refreshed strategy to reflect a much-changed world since 2018. She applies open and agile practices in her volunteer work in anti-poverty advocacy. Lorna is Editor of Saint John’s community newspaper, published six times annually as Around the Block, the voice of the city’s priority neighbourhoods. She is also a co-founder of Civic Tech Saint John.
