Engineer member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec and geographer, Stéphane Roche is a full professor of geomatics at Laval University. It explores the complexity of the modes of spatial organization of human societies and the issues raised by the digital transition, in particular in anthropocene urban ecosystems. He has developed a strong expertise on the organizational and social dimensions of Geographic Information Systems – GIS, Public Participation GIS – PPGIS, Voluntary Geographic Information – VGI and urban studies. His work today focuses on the study of the role played by social geolocation, open data and citizen engagement, in the implementation of the concept of smart city and territory. He is particularly interested in skills and spatial reasoning as the main source of a new form of urban intelligence.
