Ümit Mustafa Kiziltan was appointed in 2019 as the Chief Data Officer at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). He has been a Public Service executive since 2006 in resettlement, multiculturalism, and citizenship. In 2011, he became the Director General of Research and Evaluation branch at IRCC, focusing on the development and liberation of research data in close partnership with Statistics Canada. Prior to 2006, Ümit taught in academia, and worked with civil society and First Nations in international development and on advancing indigenous control of indigenous education. He is currently preoccupied with the increasing fragility of liberal democracies, which fuels his commitment to quality data and trusted insight to inform public policy and evidence-based narratives.
