Workshops Stream One – Maple Room A

1pm to 2:30pm Introduction to Data Visualization Analysis Tableau Software & Compuexcel
This workshop will serve as an introduction to the use of Tableau’s data analysis and visualization software, for the purposes of illustrating and gleaning patterns and insights from data. Intended for the beginner or the brush-up, it will be delivered in conjunction with Tableau’s partner reseller and joint sponsor of the Summit.

How are libraries positioning themselves to support digital and data literacy? Staff from Toronto Public Library and Richard Pietro, Founder of Open Toronto, discuss their partnership to develop and deliver public programs and staff training to build understanding of the open data movement. Plus, take part in a hands-on workshop to build an Open Data Toolkit for Libraries.

Governments across Canada have a huge amount of data and must prioritize datasets for release. The Canada Open Government Working Group (COGWG) allows collaboration on open government initiatives across federal, provincial and territorial governments. To help ID high priority datasets, COGWG compared practices in several Canadian jurisdictions, analyzed international practices and established criteria for identifying high value datasets. Part one will focus on COGWG’s initial list of high value datasets, part two will engage attendees on how a subset of this can be standardized across jurisdictions.
2:30pm to 4pm Maximizing Geospatial Data Software Esri Canada
This workshop will serve as an introduction to the use of ESRI’s ArcGIS Geographic Information System software for data analysis and visualization, for the purposes of illustrating and gleaning patterns and insights from data. Intended for the beginner or the brush-up.
